As many may already know, the Lake Street Bridge in Chicago is fully closed to vehicles and pedestrians—and it won’t reopen anytime soon.
The major rehabilitation project for the bridge, built in 1916, is scheduled for completion in January 2028, meaning the bridge will be closed for another full year (and 3 months… but who’s counting?)
While this closure primarily affects buses, cars, and pedestrians, it will also temporarily impact the CTA. The good news? It’s only for a short period.
The CTA Green and Pink Line trains on the L tracks that cross the bridge will undergo a planned service outage between Clinton and Clark/Lake stations from October 13 to 26, 2026, for new leaf installation.
According to the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), crews will replace one of the Lake Street Bridge’s movable spans with a new section built off-site and floated into place on the Chicago River, requiring a temporary halt to Green and Pink Line trains that cross its upper deck.
The work is expected to be completed by 4 a.m. on October 26.

CTA Green and Pink Line trains: service change Oct. 13-26

Passengers traveling across the affected area should transfer between the train and shuttle bus at these stations.
