A local farm is offering a sustainable option for Christmas tree disposal in Chicago this post-holiday season, while helping to feed some furry friends in the process!
The Urban Growers Collective is currently accepting leftover trees at its Southside farm and turning them into feed for its heard of adorable goats.
“Have a natural Christmas tree you want to dispose of in an environmentally conscious way?” said Urban Growers Collective in a social media post.
“Donate your tree and reduce holiday waste while making our goats happy with a fresh snack!”
From now until January 11, Chicagoans can drop their tree off between 9:30am and 5pm at Urban Growers Collective’s farm at 9001 S. Mackinaw Ave.
From there it’ll be munched on by the 15 Nigerian Pygmy goats that call the farm home, according to CBS Chicago.
All donated trees must be natural and free of decorations, tinsel, and fire retardant sprays.
A non-profit organization, Urban Growers Collective works to foster a sustainable, locally cultivated food system in Chicago. The group operates numerous urban farms in the Chicago region, in addition to offering community workshops and other programming.
By donating a tree, Chicagoans can help reduce waste, support animal care, and further Urban Growers Collective’s community-centered mission.
