Chicago is getting an early taste of summer to start off the week, but the above-average temperatures won’t last long—severe storms and a major temperature drop are on the way.
Here’s a breakdown of the forecast.
Temps in the 70s Monday, storms to follow

Chicago will see record-breaking warmth Monday, with a high of 72 degrees. The prediction shatters a previous record high for March 9 of 69 degrees set in 2021, according to data from the National Weather Service (NWS).
Additionally, we’ll enjoy sunny skies Monday, making for a picture-perfect start to the week.
Unfortunately, the conditions will be short lived, as the potential for intense storms will move in Tuesday.
The NWS predicts a a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. Tuesday, noting that some storms may be “severe.”

The daily high will top out at 51 degrees, with temperatures falling to a low of 39 degrees overnight. Additional thunderstorms are possible overnight into Wednesday.
Come Wednesday, it’ll be feeling more like winter again, with a high of only 45 degrees and a rainy/snowy mix likely for much of the day.
Skies will clear briefly Thursday with a high of 44 degrees, followed by more overnight showers.
All in all, it’s going to be a soggy week in Chicago, so be sure to get out and enjoy the warm weather today before it’s gone!
