Spring 2026 is just a few weeks out, and we now have an idea of Chicago’s seasonal weather outlook.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has released its meteorological predictions for spring in the Windy City, showing the potential for more rain and warmer conditions.
Here’s a look at the data and what it means for you!
Above average precipitation

The latest predictions from the NWS show above average precipitation in the Chicago region beginning in March.
If this week’s forecast is any indication, that outlook just might be correct.
An extended bout of rain will roll in Tuesday, with the NWS predicting a 40% chance of showers until Wednesday.
Conditions will intensify Thursday, with thunderstorms likely in the early morning hours and afternoon.
The rainy weather will last through much of the weekend, with additional showers possible Friday and Saturday. In fact our next chance for sunny and dry conditions won’t arrive until Sunday, according to the NWS.
Temperatures could go either way

As far as temperature predictions, NWS data shows equal chances of above or below average temperatures in Chicago this spring.
Chicago’s average high for March is 47 degrees, according to the NWS, while the average low sits around 31 degrees.
This week, daily highs will hover in the mid 40s to low 50s through Thursday, before peaking around the low 60s Friday and Saturday.
With the official start of spring around the corner, we’ll have to wait and see how the season shapes up. For now, be sure to keep your rain coat handy, Chicago!
