Chicago is the Top U.S. city for growing and expanding companies—for the 13th year in a row!
The ranking comes from corporate real estate magazine Site Selection, who credit Chicago’s more than 600 ongoing corporate development projects as the deciding factor.
Chicago’s place at the top of the list also signals strong investment activity and economic momentum citywide.

In 2025, more than 200 corporations expanded, relocated to, or entered the Chicago market, according to World Business Chicago.
The ranking comes amid some major business developments locally.
Current projects include Google’s ongoing expansion and renovation at the Thompson Center, a quantum computing complex on the South Side, and the sprawling 78 development drawing new investment to the city.

Mayor Brandon Johnson acknowledged the ranking in a statement, saying “Chicago’s continued leadership in corporate relocation and expansion reflects the strengths our city has built over generations.”
“From manufacturing and freight to transportation and global logistics, we have long served as the backbone of American commerce. That industrial depth, combined with modern infrastructure and a skilled workforce, is why companies continue to choose Chicago to grow, invest, and innovate.”
