Just a few months on from Naperville being named top of a list of ‘Best Cities to Live in America’ another Chicago suburb has received similar recognition by being awarded the accolade of “the safest and most affordable” city in the country.
In a study carried out by GOBankingRates, cities across the country were analyzed with crime metrics, median income, cost of living, and other factors taken out to determine a list of the 50 Safest and Most Affordable US Cities To Live In.
Coming out on top was the Northwest Chicago suburb of Elgin.
According to GOBankingRates, the study was conducted based on the costs of living and crime rate averages. Factored by crimes per 1,000 people, cities were ranked from lowest to highest based on the average crime rates and costs of living compared to the national average.
While Elgin finished in the top spot, Joliet joined Elgin as another Illinois representative on the list finishing a little further down in 17th place.
Texas dominated the list with 11 of the top 25 found in the Lone Star State. Brownsville, Texas was also named the city with the cheapest cost of living with an estimated monthly cost of $2,940.
Cary, North Carolina was ranked the second safest and most affordable city in the United States behind Elgin, while Gilbert, Arizona came in third.
