Chicago’s relationship with television and movies requires no rhapsody. From The Bear to Batman, countless popular TV series and hit movies have been filmed all across the city.
There’s one place, however, that is instantly recognizable for its role in one of the most iconic movies of all time. Located just 16 miles north of downtown Chicago, few façades are as iconic as that of 671 N. Lincoln Ave in Winnetka.
The expansive home has become a household source of nostalgia for being the residence of the McAllister family in the 1990 movie Home Alone, and now the home a young Macauley Caulkin famously defended from the Wet Bandits is officially up for sale.
In recent years the 9,000-square-foot Georgian house was listed on Airbnb as part of the company’s new Icons experience which invites guests to stay in iconic homes from movies, music, art, and more.
Last week, the five-bedroom, six-bathroom house officially hit the market with a hefty price tag of $5.25 million.
Listed on Zillow.com, 58 photos show a glimpse inside the home which looks largely unrecognizable from the place Kevin McAllister bravely defended in the Christmas cult classic except for the main staircase and a few other details only notable to the keenest of movie buffs.
While the front of the house looks exactly as it did in the movie, the home has undergone extensive interior renovations in the last decade and now boasts a lavish, modern minimalistic design.
Inside, however, guests will find a private cinema (not the one in which Kevin watched Angels With Filthy Souls) and an indoor NBA-standard basketball court with a true 3-point line to spend days shooting hoops.
“A legendary holiday dream home, reimagined for modern-day luxury: The stately brick Georgian residence of “Home Alone” fame brings forward a rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic movie residences in American pop culture”, reads the Zillow listing.
“Nestled on a picturesque, tree-lined street in the heart of east Winnetka and elegantly poised behind a wrought-iron gate, the property epitomizes classic Chicago suburban architecture.”
The house was “fully renovated and expanded in 2018” it explains but the utmost care was taken “to maintain the architectural detail and integrity of the home’s most memorable and recognizable spaces.”
“From the promise of movie nights and game days to holiday gatherings surrounded by loved ones, this magical family home truly transcends its architectural pedigree. It’s a chance to own a piece of cinematic history and create lasting memories within its iconic walls.
