Some months on from Chicago ranking as the Best Big City in the United States by Condé Nast Traveler and now a suburb west of Chicago has been named the best place to live in the country in 2024.
Niche, an online rating database that reviews the best places to settle down in the United States, recently released its 10th annual rankings for the Best City to Live in America naming Naperville at the very top.
But that’s not all… not only was Naperville named the best city to live in the entire country, it also took first place in the categories Best Cities to Raise a Family in America and Cities with the Best Public Schools in America.
Based on a scrupulous analysis of key statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, Bureau of Labor Statistics, FBI, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Niche looks into schools, work, and public safety evaluating a total of 230 cities to determine its annual ranking.
230 cities which classified as urbanized areas with populations of 100,000 or more were given grades in 12 different categories. Naperville was awarded 7 different A’s, 4 B’s, and 1 C for its weather.
Stand-out praise went to the categories ‘Public Schools’, ‘Good for Families’, ‘Health & Fitness’, and ‘Outdoor Activities’, though ‘Housing’, ‘Jobs’, and ‘Diversity’ were all also deemed A- worthy.
Moving up from its 4th place ranking last year, Naperville beat out competition from The Woodlands, close to Houston in Texas, which finished runner-up, and Cambridge, Massachusetts in third.
Niche praised Naperville’s caliber of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks as well as the “moderate political views” in the area but particularly emphasized its highly rated public schools.
Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli yesterday expressed his happiness via X, formerly Twitter, acknowledging the “work of the past” and thanking “leaders who played the long game and made generation-defining decisions in city planning, economic development strategies, infrastructure investment, and public safety.”
He also thanked “all who help make Naperville what it is – a safe place with excellent schools, parks, arts & culture, health care, and much more.”
