The Chicago Sky will play the United Center for the first time history this summer, in what could be the showdown of the decade: Angel Reese vs. Caitlin Clark.
The league has seen explosive growth in recent years, fueled largely by the star power of Clark and Reese, making the Sky vs. The Fever one of the most anticipated games of the season.
In addition to Reese and Clark, the game will highlight some of the WNBA’s other big names including Kamilla Cardoso, Courtney Vandersloot, Ariel Atkins of The Sky, and DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard and Kelsey Mitchell of The Fever.
The Chicago Sky anticipates record-breaking attendance for the July game, with tickets going on sale March 11 at 11 a.m.
The Sky typically play home games at Wintrust Arena. Tp meet the soaring demand for their matchup against the Fever, they’ll take over the United Center’s 20,000-seat arena.
“Given the explosive growth in the WNBA, we now have a first-ever opportunity to invite more fans to experience this matchup at a larger venue of the United Center,” said Adam Fox, Sky President and CEO in a statement.
“Chicago Sky fans have consistently shown up for the team and the city, and we want to reward their passion and dedication by bringing this excitement to an expanded capacity.”
The Sky’s largest-ever single game saw 16,444 fans pack Allstate Arena in 2016. With the hype surrounding Reese vs. Clark, July’s game just might leave that record in the dust.
