If you thought outbound traffic from Chicago has been challenging in recent months, we have some unfortunate news: this weekend is about to be even worse.
The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that the reversible express lanes from the Edens Expressway junction to Ohio Street will close this weekend as part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Kennedy Expressway.
Closure Schedules for the Kennedy Reversible Express Lanes:
- Saturday, May 17: 6 a.m. to noon
- Sunday, May 18, from 6 a.m. to noon Sunday, May 18.
Heavy congestion is anticipated for those traveling to and from the suburbs or the airport this weekend. It is advised to “expect significant delays and allow extra time for trips through this area.”
Helpful Tips:
- Travel during non-peak hours
- Consider taking alternative routes
- Utilize public transportation options, including the Chicago Transit Authority’s Blue Line and Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line, as well as Pace services.
