Chicago’s variety of landmarks, murals, bars, bridges, parks, and rooftops make it a unique metropolis that people around the world come to enjoy. Along with being recognized as the best big city in the United States by Condé Nast Traveler Chicago was recently decorated for being one of the most beautiful cities in the world in fall and now another ranking has put it in the top 10, this time for being one of the most photographed cities on the planet.
Big 7 Travel, looked at the number of Instagram posts and TikTok views “to find the most Instagrammable places in the world – where people are visiting and where social media users are wanderlusting after.”
“Social media plays a huge role in our lives, and TikTok and Instagram have become essential for travelers to document their adventures. Whether it’s a source of travel inspiration, a helping hand with planning itineraries, or simply a means of distraction from everyday life, social media users love to consume travel content” wrote Big 7 Travel.
Of the 50 destinations that made it onto the list, Chicago ranked inside the top 10 with nearly 55,750,000 Instagram posts and over 45,700,000,000 views on TikTok.
Coming in at number 7 Chicago was up one place from last year’s 8th place finish and up three from 10th the year before this year coming in well ahead of Sri Lanka in number 8 and just behind Bali, Indonesia in 6th.
“The Windy City is a haven for pizza, culture, and Instagrammable photo spots. Cloud Gate, the bean sculpture in Millenium Park, is undoubtedly the most photographed spot in the city” wrote Big 7 Travel.
“Chicago River is another well-loved photo spot, with bars, cafes, and restaurants taking up the Riverwalk area. Come for St. Patrick’s Day and watch the river famously turn green in celebration!”
New York City was the only place in the United States to rank higher than Chicago coming in third whilst Washington’s Seattle and Louisiana’s New Orleans also featured in the top 50 further down the list in 19th and 26th.
It was London that took the top spot. With over 100 billion TikTok views and 160+ million Instagram posts, the home of iconic landmarks such as the London Eye, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace was named the world’s most photographic place.
