The world has a new pope—and Chicago has a new reason to celebrate—as the leader of the Catholic Church was born and raised in the Windy City’s suburbs.
And get this: Robert Prevost (now Pope Leo XIV)’s childhood home, where his journey from Chicagoland to the Vatican began, is up for sale.
Redfin currently lists the house, located at 212 E. 141st Place in south suburban Dolton, for nearly $250,000 at the time of publishing.
A modest 750-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, the property’s history appears to align with public tax and address records first reported by South Cook News.
A buyer last purchased and renovated the home in May 2024, adding granite countertops and refinished wood flooring. Prevost’s family sold the home in 1996.
Though he grew up in Dolton, Prevost reportedly also spent time in nearby communities, including New Lenox, Homewood, and Olympia Fields.
Since the Vatican’s announcement yesterday, Prevost has become a household name—and interest in his childhood home has skyrocketed.
Fast Company reports that the listing agent has already received two offers in the 24 hours since Prevost became pope.
