It appears that Chicago Fire FC will soon be leaving Soldier Field, after announcing plans to build a new, privately funded soccer-specific stadium in the South Loop.
The new venue is expected to open in the spring of 2028 as part of chairman and owner Joe Manseuto’s vision to transform the club.
The new Chicago Fire FC stadium
According to MLSSoccer.com , the stadium will have a seating capacity of approximately 22,000 fans and will be located in the 78th neighborhood along the Chicago River, just south of Roosevelt Road.
In addition to the stadium, the project will include an entertainment district featuring a mixed-use development with restaurants, retail shops, office space, and residential buildings, as well as green spaces and an extension of the Chicago Riverwalk.
Chicago Fire owner Joe Mansueto expressed enthusiasm for the new Chicago Fire FC:
This project is more than just a stadium. It’s a space for fans of all ages, backgrounds, and neighborhoods to come together and celebrate the beautiful game, right in the heart of our city. It’s about investing in Chicago, not just on match days, but every day as a committed community partner.
Currently, the Chicago Fire plays its home games at Soldier Field, but the new stadium project is still pending City Council approval.
