It’s COLD in Chicago today, so cold in fact that dozens of city institutions have shut their doors to weather the conditions and keep the public safe.
From museums to libraries, here’s a breakdown of everything that’s closed today, and when each destination will reopen.
Museums

Several Chicago museums are closed today amid the dangerous cold, according to social media posts from each institution. Here’s the full list:
These museums plan to reopen for normal business hours on Saturday, January 24.
The Museum of Science and Industry is open for normal hours, while the Morton Arboretum in suburban Lisle is opening on a delayed schedule at 12 p.m. Friday.
Libraries

Chicago Public Library locations are open today for normal hours. CPL locations are doubling as warming centers for those in need. View a full list of local warming centers and other resources here.
More than a dozen suburban libraries are closed today due to the cold, including Lincolnwood Public Library, Niles Public Library District, Wilmette Public Library, and others. View the full list here.
