It’s official, Chicago is among the happiest places on earth! Well, according to one ranking at least.
Time Out has released its annual roundup of 20 Happiest Cities in the World, and the Windy City cracked the top ten.
The list is based on a survey of residents from various global cities. Participants were asked to respond to the following statements:
- My city makes me happy
- I feel happier in my city than other places I’ve visited or lived
- The people in my city seem happy
- I find joy in the everyday experiences my city offers
- The sense of happiness in my city has grown a lot recently

Based on that data, Chicago claimed the number 8 spot, scoring high marks for overall happiness and quality of life. Additionally, Chicago is the only U.S. city to make the list. Here’s the entire top ten selection:
