This winter has been unexpectedly cold, but spring seems to have arrived in Chicago, as evidenced by the blooming cherry blossoms.
These soft and delicate flowers typically bloom for only a week or two, making their appearance a rare and beautiful sight. If you’re eager to enjoy the cherry blossoms right now, Jackson Park is the place to visit, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
Currently, the cherry blossoms in Jackson Park are in the third and fourth stages of blooming, meaning you can officially see the transformation.
In 2013, the cherry blossoms were planted in Jackson Park to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the World’s Columbian Exposition. Since then, they have attracted many visitors. To further celebrate the Japanese custom of welcoming spring, known as Hanami, more than 50 additional trees were planted in the following years.
In Jackson Park, there are five different types of cherry blossoms, including Yoshino, Gooseberry, Snow Goose, Snow Fountains, and Accolade.
The ideal spot to enjoy over 160 blooming cherry blossom trees in Jackson Park is around the Columbian Basin, located at 6401 S. Stony Island Ave., and the Garden of the Phoenix on the Wooded Island, which is situated just south of the Museum of Science and Industry.
