“Never play anything the same way twice.” — wise words from music legend Louis Armstrong. Jazz is all about fishing the new from the familiar. And if you’re like a lot of music lovers and tend to “dream a little dream of” an ambience softened by improvised notes and flickering candles, then these Candlelight Jazz concerts might just be smooth and original enough to win over your hankering soul.
On top of the countless International Jazz Day events and frenzy of celebratory festivals, add Candlelight Jazz to your list of things to do this season. You can trust PureSoul Chicago, a group of world-class musicians, to deliver a showstopping performance guided by iconic artists like Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Amy Winehouse.
Candlelight: Women in Jazz
When it came to soul, pop, gospel, rhythm and blues, and a whole other list of genres and subgenres, the women inspiring this Candlelight concert didn’t wait around. What else do they have in common? Each of them experimented with, dipped into, or even mastered the jazz element of their impressive discographies. These musical heroes, including Etta James and Peggy Lee, represent strength, sensuousness, and change.
Taking place at the Arts Center of Oak Park, the performance will be illuminated by thousands of candles. Bass, piano, drums, and vocals come together nicely to recreate Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman”, Billie Holiday’s “April in Paris”, the Queen of Jazz’s “Summertime”, and other timeless classics inside the neo-classical building in Chicago.
Kick back and relax as skilled jazz musicians inspire your mind, body, and soul. Infatuated with things such as polyrhythms and creative freedom, Candlelight Jazz is a unique experience. Rediscover some of your favorite singers in a new and warm light. Two back-to-back concerts take place on each date, and doors open 45 minutes before the show starts.
