You may be familiar with Bub City, a lively BBQ restaurant located at the corner of Clark and Hubbard Street in River North. The restaurant is adorned with Christmas lights and features a large disco ball that rotates above the central stage.
If you glance at either of the two bars, you’ll spot the 100-plus whiskey bottles that shimmer between the colorful glow. Later in the evening, the restaurant echoes the streets of Nashville with country artists belting out southern ballads. The restaurant’s charisma speaks volumes about why the line is usually out the door before 9 p.m. strikes.
As the restaurant is a nightlife spot, people may be less acquainted with its menu. However, between brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner—and even a Malört jello shot—there’s something for everyone’s palette.
What’s on Bub City’s menu?
We will start with their brunch menu, which features burnt ends benedict, Nashville hot chicken & bacon waffle, and—our favorite–the gooey cinnamon sticky buns, which are homemade and filled with cream cheese frosting, catering to your taste buds as a breakfast dessert. The lunch and dinner menu is filled with BBQ delights, such as award-winning chicken wings, fried pickles, cheesy fries, and a selection of smoked meats.
While their drink menu is similar to other establishments in the area, one item caught our attention—the Malört Jello shot. Usually, we find the idea of swallowing even a sip of Malört disgusting, but the thought of a Malört-infused Jello shot intrigued us.
For $8, we decided to taste Bub’s Barrel-Aged Malört, and you know what? We ordered a second. By the end, we were gaslighting ourselves into believing Malort is actually good. You’ll need to order one and experience it firsthand.
Between the live music, gooey cinnamon sticky buns, and the Malört jello shot, we’ll be back at all hours of the day.
