Lights and lagers await.
Zoolights at Lincoln Park Zoo isn’t the only zoo in Illinois throwing a party of lights this winter. Chicago Zoological Society’s Brookfield Zoo will be hosting their 39th Holiday Magic at their 216-acre zoo grounds. Said to be Chicagoland’s largest and longest-running lights festival, Holiday Magic will feature over a million twinkling LED lights and multiple awe-inspiring decorations across the park.
A giant 20-foot-lit orb provides an ideal spot for Instagram selfies and holiday photos whilst a 600-foot-long light and music tunnel makes for a mesmerizing experience for adults and children alike. With the year-round residents tucked away safely indoors, the animal kingdom will instead be represented by some larger-than-life LED animal sculptures of bison, a bear, and a giraffe. Then, of course, there’s the stunning 41-foot-tall tree to spread the festive cheer and celebrate the holidays.
There are plenty of places Santa Claus will be checking into across Chicagoland but unfortunately, Brookfield Zoo won’t be one of them this year. Families can still take photos next to a huge life-size cutout of him and kids will also be able to drop off their letters in the south mall.
Of course, warm hot beverages like spiced wine and hot chocolate are available to keep all guests toasty warm as they wander through the festival of light. For those who don’t need the extra warmth a range of beers and wines will also be on offer and the outdoor food stands will be selling seasonal specials including funnel cakes, praline nuts, and cinnamon sugar pretzels.
The event will run from Friday, November 27 through December 31, 2020, and tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $18 for children aged between 3 and 11. The lights do not run every day of the week so be sure to head to Brookfield Zoo’s website to check for more information.
