If you weren’t lucky enough to catch Andrew Bird’s exclusive Green Mill Jazz Club performance, you’d be elated to hear he’s back for his annual Gezelligheid Holiday Concerts this December.
Following a sold-out run of shows in 2023, he will once again perform instrumental violin pieces, holiday classics, and fan favorites for seven nights.
The acclaimed Grammy-nominated vocalist, whistler, and songwriter has been long appreciated by Chicago fans, graduating from Lake Forest High School and then attending Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in violin performance.
The year he graduated, he self-released his first solo album, Music of Hair. Since then, he has released over a dozen studio albums, live albums, and EPs spanning various genres, including swing, indie rock, folk, and jazz music. Andrew Bird recently released ‘Sunday Morning Put-On.‘ The album’s title refers to an earlier era of Bird’s life, in which “he stayed up all night listening to jazz.”
He has been giving personal performances since 2009, and they have become a cherished tradition of the holiday season. Gezelligheid references a Dutch term that loosely translates to “cozy.” Now in its 14th year, Chicagoans are still intoxicated by his signature, spinning Victrola horns and delicious vocals.
When will the Andrew Bird Gezelligheid concerts take place?
The Gezelligheid concerts will be held on December 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 at Chicago’s Fourth Presbyterian Church.
The Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago is one of the largest congregations of the Presbyterian Church. It has frequently been regarded as a lovely relic with an equally stunning interior dripped with stained-glasses windows.
Where can I get tickets?
Gezelligheid is presented by Jam, Metro, and 93XRT. Tickets for all seven concerts are currently available on Andrew Bird’s website.
