Summer might be winding down in Chicago, but mother nature clearly hasn’t received the memo—it currently feels like 105 degrees in the Wind City.
The entire Chicago region is currently under a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) amid dangerously high heat index values.
Here’s a break down of the numbers and how soon we could see some relief.
Heat Advisory in Chicago Wednesday

A heat advisory will remain in effect for the Chicago region until 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to the NWS.
While Wednesday’s high will reach 94 degrees; high humidity will exacerbate conditions and cause it to feel much warmer.
Heat index values as high as 105 degrees are expected throughout Cook County, and surrounding DuPage, Kane, and McHenry counties among others.
The NWS recommends taking added precautions while outdoors and rescheduling planned outdoor activities.
Chicago residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity, particularly in the morning and evening, according to the NWS.
When temperatures will improve

As for how soon Chicago could see some relief, it will likely take several days.
Several rounds of thunderstorms are predicted to move through the region in the coming days, with daily highs slowly decreasing.
Thursday will see a high of 90 degrees and a heat index value of 98, followed by a high of 88 on Friday.

By the weekend, daily highs will drop to the low 80s. All in all, however, conditions in Chicago will remain hot and humid for at least the remainder of the week.
