‘World’s Largest’ Corn Maze Opens At Richardson Farm Outside Chicago

The recently opened 28-acre-large corn maze features a new design celebrating 50 years of Earth Day.

Pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and corn mazes — some our favorite autumnal activities best enjoyed in the midwest. Regarding the latter, it’s especially true for Richardson Farm in Spring Grove, Illinois, who’ve just opened their 28-acre corn maze to the public.

Richardson Farm’s corn maze is in fact composed of 4 smaller mini mazes weaved together by 9 – 10 miles of meandering walking trails. If you forgot your breadcrumbs at home, don’t worry. The corn maze has multiple checkpoints in addition to three 8-foot-high wooden bridges built-in for you pop your head up over the hedge and coordinate your path as you see fit. If the brief bird’s eye view still doesn’t get you to where you need to go, the maze has perimeter paths allowing for easy exit.

Exploring the maze itself is a pleasant experience, but at Richardson Farm, you can also entertain five separate games within the maze that vary in length and difficulty. Every year, Richardson Farm features a fresh theme for their giant corn maze. This year it’s 50 years of Planet Earth:

“Our theme is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day,” the farm wrote on their website. “The first Earth day was April 22, 1970 and mobilized 20 million Americans to take to the streets, parks, and college campuses to protest environmental ignorance and demand a new way forward to our planet.”

“Central in the design is our planet Earth cradled in the hands of a person signifying that we, collectively, need to love and care for our entire planet Earth.”

In addition to their maze, Richardson Farm has a number of other attractions that include their pumpkin patch, community campfire, zip line, zorbing — which is strapping into an inflatable 11-foot ball and bouncing down a hillside, petting zoo, giant slide, and more!
