Wicker Park Lutheran Church’s congregation was founded in 1879, though the current Romanesque Revival structure on the corner of Hoyne Avenue and Le Moyne Street replaced the original church in 1906. Today, it remains an active worship community that frequently opens its doors for concerts, community space rentals, and public events. You can appreciate the building’s architecture while attending an intimate Candlelight concert. WPLC is hosting a series of these performances featuring classical takes on some of the greatest music of all time.
You’ll find getting to the striking church to be an easy task. WPLC is located just two blocks south of the no.72 North Avenue bus, two blocks west of the no.50 Damen Avenue bus, and three blocks from the no.56 Milwaukee Avenue bus. If arriving by car, you can also find non-zoned, free parking on Hoyne and LeMoyne.

Designed by A.C. Hansen in the classical Romanesque style with a vaulted ceiling, round arches, and twin towers inspired by the Abbey of Sainte-Trinité, Wicker Park Lutheran Church retains its century-old architectural grandeur following a modernizing $1.4 million renovation completed in May 2026.
Beyond its impressive structural framework, the sanctuary houses three defining historic treasures: vibrant, intricately detailed Munich-style stained glass windows illuminating the nave that were carefully restored during the 2026 project, a rare and historically significant 1906 M.P. Möller pneumatic organ in the right transept operated entirely by compressed air, and a stunning wood carving of The Last Supper at the center of the altar, crafted by renowned master woodcarver Alois Lang.
