When it comes to buying a home, some locations make it harder to find the perfect home than others. It’s hard when homes are off the market before you can even get through a tour of the place.
It’s not like this in every area, of course—however, if you’re in Chicago and looking to buy a home in the western suburbs, there is a certain suburb seeing stiff competition.
Why? It was recently named one of America’s hottest housing markets.
According to Realtor.com’s Hottest ZIP Codes report, Wheaton, with the ZIP code 60187, ranked No. 10 in all of America.

With a median list price of $575,000, homes in this western suburb spend an average of 25 days on the market, and typical listings attract more than three times as many online views as the national average. While homes are selling slightly below list price, they are selling closer to list price than is typical nationally and are outperforming the broader Chicago market, according to the real estate website.
Realtor.com noted that homebuyers are prioritizing space and established character—paying a premium for larger, older homes within commuting distance of a major job center, rather than focusing only on affordability.
