Perched above the city streets, a former train line has been artfully transformed into The 606, a stunning 2.7-mile urban park. This expansive, paved nature trail offers an escape from the often crowded lakefront path—a seamless, picturesque route for walkers, runners, and cyclists, all nestled in the heart of the city.
The 606 gives locals an uninterrupted, tree-lined path for summer recreation
Unlike traditional ground-level parks, the elevated vantage point of The 606 gives visitors a direct line of sight to local architecture, historic brick buildings, and large-scale street art. Visuals along the route include an expansive mural depicting faces and floral designs, as well as standalone public art installations, such as a cluster of colorful, oversized eye sculptures mounted on metal stalks.
The path integrates seamlessly into the surrounding neighborhoods. Visitors are not required to complete the full 2.7-mile trek; fenced exit ramps and stairways allow pedestrians to step off the trail at any cross street. This design makes it easy for users to leave the park to visit a nearby restaurant or explore the adjoining streets before returning to the path.
