There is a new seamless starting point for cyclists heading toward the city’s harbors: Igor’s Bike Shack.
Located directly on the Lakefront Trail in Lakeview, this shop operates out of a repurposed shack at 3650 N Recreation Dr. Besides the convenient location that allows riders to avoid street traffic entirely, the shop combines daily bike rentals with a full-service repair station under new ownership.
Operating from a repurposed shack
The shop offers rentals by the hour or for an entire day, providing riders with a bike and helmet, while also adjusting the equipment before they head straight into the designated bike lane. For residents with their own bicycles that need maintenance after winter, the mechanics offer a range of services from basic safety checks to full tune-ups. Cyclists passing by can stop to use the shop’s free tire-pumping station as well.
In addition to standard rentals, the business employs a “try-before-you-buy” approach. Customers who rent a bike and decide they want to purchase it can do so on the spot, with the cost of their rental deducted from the final price.
