Of all the events taking place around the city, few things can better the spectacle provided by a sublime Candlelight Concert. Flickering candles and melodic sounds combine phenomenally to create magnetic atmospheres and some of Chicago’s most unique indoor and outdoor venues. From Latin & Tango candlelit concerts to Magical Movie Soundtrack concerts, there is something for everybody.
Some of our favourite concerts taking place this month are:
- Candlelight Open-Air: Favorite Anime Themes at Artifact Events Courtyard
- Candlelight Open Air: Miles Davis Classic Quintet at Salvage One’s Hidden Courtyard
- Candlelight Indoor: Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong at Stan Mansion
- Candlelight Indoor: From Bach to The Beatlesat Salvage One
- Candlelight Indoor: Latin Jazz ft. Celia Cruz, Tito Puente at Salvage One
While Classical, Jazz, and Latin candlelight concerts can be enjoyed throughout the month, there’s a one-off ‘All Day I Dream’ Lake Party taking place on Saturday, August 21, that looks to be the event of the summer for house music enthusiasts.
Dating back to 2011, All Day I Dream events quickly became an international sensation with Lee Burridge and his unique roster of talented artists providing euphoric experiences around the globe. With iconic artists and unique venues draped in hedonistic decorations, All Day I Dream parties earned a reputation for their utterly magical atmospheres.
Forty cities, hundreds of parties, and countless smiles beneath sunny skies — this is the legacy of the All Day I Dream movement and now Lee Burridge is bringing the notorious day-into-night experience to Chicago’s Burnham Waterfront. You’ll find draped fabrics and flickering fairy lights forming an unforgettable open-air setting beneath the summer sun. As the sun begins to set lanterns and lights will illuminate the waterfront and keep the ambiance lasting long after sundown offering the perfect plan to see out summer.
A few days before All Day I Dream comes to Chicago’s waterfront, a packed party boat will be sailing down the Chicago River and out onto the lake for a Fireworks Booze Cruise on Wednesday, August 18. Break up the working week with a cruise down the river. Admire the breathtaking views of Chicago’s architecture, watch the sunset, and finish the night with an unobstructed view of the Navy Pier’s Fireworks show from Lake Michigan.
Grab your tickets here.
The weekend after the Fireworks Booze Cruise takes to Lake Michigan you’ll find a whole different spectacle in the skies above. Chicago’s beloved Air and Water Show, one of the largest in the country, is returning with a scaled-back version having been canceled completely last summer. The “new and reimagined” event will feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels perform along the lakefront on the weekend of August 21, and August 22.
The one-hour demonstrations will take place from 12 pm – 1 pm on both Saturday, August 21, and Sunday, August 22 and Sunday. According to the official news release the best viewing locations will be along the lakefront between Oak Street and Fullerton Avenue.
At the end of the month, two contrasting festivals are taking place in Chicago on Saturday, August 28. The first is the STRENGTH IN THE CITY Festival which will come to The Lakefront Green at Theater on the Lake. Numerous fitness and wellness classes will be kicking off at 8 am offering guests the chance to exercise whilst taking in Chicago’s sensational skyline.
As the day unravels wellness vendors, a farmer’s market, field games, and local DJs ensure the revelry rolls on until live music performances grace three different stages. You can grab tickets to the STRENGTH IN THE CITY Festival here.
If a health and wellness festival doesn’t tickle your fancy, Chicago’s 2021 Summer Whiskey Tasting Festival just might. Test your taste buds, meet local and high-end brands, and learn everything whiskey-related. Various tickets can be purchased and 100% of the money goes to charity. So grab your ticket and get ready to find your new favorite whiskey!
“Drink, sir, is a great provoker…” This magical stage where great things happen is set in a hidden speakeasy located behind the Chicago Theater. Guests enter to find a glam cocktail bar and library with over 10,000 books. Five classically-trained actors meet as members of “The Drunk Shakespeare Society”. One of them has at least 5 shots of whiskey and then they (quite over-confidently) attempt to perform a major role in a Shakespearean play! Hilarity and mayhem ensue while the four sober actors try and keep the script on track. Every show is different depending on who is drinking… and what they’re drinking!

Some of Chicago’s murals are so esteemed that they’ve embedded themselves in the very fabric of Chicago and are now as much part of the Windy City’s identity as its iconic sculptures and landmarks.
