Carrying on the legendary legacy of Chicago’s mid-century ‘Bar Magic’, Theater of Magic is an up-close magic show based on the concept by Christopher Wayne, one of the most successful minds in magic history. The show arrives with a prestigious TripAdvisor “Travellers’ Choice” Award, ranking it in the top 10% of experiences globally. Perhaps proof that, as Harry Houdini once said: “What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes.” With a range of 5-star reviews coming in from the previous show, and new dates being added, this is not a magic show in Chicago to be missed.

What is Theater of Magic?
Theater of Magic is an intimate live magic experience that brings audiences face-to-face with illusions that seem impossible to explain. Created from a concept by renowned magician Christopher Wayne, the show blends modern sleight of hand, mind-bending illusions, and audience interaction in a sophisticated setting limited to just 100 guests. Every seat feels close to the action, while VIP tickets place you right in the front row, where the tricks unfold just inches away.
To begin the evening, VIP guests are welcomed with a magic-themed cocktail before stepping into a world where logic quickly gives way to wonder.
Palmer House at a Hilton Hotel
Don’t be fooled by the glittering chandeliers and fresco-covered ceilings — the Palmer House has been making Chicago history for more than 150 years. Originally gifted by businessman Potter Palmer to his wife Bertha Honoré Palmer in 1871, the iconic hotel famously rose from the ashes after the Great Chicago Fire and returned even grander just two years later. Along the way, it helped shape modern hospitality, becoming one of the first hotels to introduce features like electric lighting, telephones, and elevators in guest rooms.
But the stories don’t stop there. During the golden age of jazz and supper clubs, the hotel’s legendary Empire Room welcomed cultural icons including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Mark Twain, and Oscar Wilde. Today, with more than 1,600 guest rooms and an impressive collection of historic lounges and event spaces, this downtown landmark remains one of Chicago’s most fascinating places to step into the city’s past.

You might see red balls multiply between fingers, levitating objects, and cards bursting into flames through flash-paper reveals, all while a touch of comedy keeps the energy high. There’s even a deep dive into mind-reading illusions that will leave your heart racing. It serves as a living testament to David Copperfield’s belief that “the real secret of magic lies in the performance.”
The show runs on selected dates at Palmer House at a Hilton Hotel and, because the experience is designed to be so personal, attendance is strictly capped. With only 100 seats per session, spaces are limited. So, grab your favorite person and magic them into a seat where your eyes will widen and as magic illuminates the stage.
