From the now viral chocolate cake to sports references, The Bear has swept the internet, winning awards galore, and making the already iconic Mr. Beef even more famous.
Now, The Bear is back for a second season, and the trailer shows off parts of the Chicago restaurant scene with its signature aplomb and fast-paced wit.
For anyone in need of a quick recap, The Bear is set in Chicago with the restaurant setting for the first season based on Chicago’s authentic Italian beef sandwich joint, Mr. Beef at 666 N Orleans St.
The Bear follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) a brilliant young chef who leaves the fine dining world to run his family’s sandwich shop in Chicago. The fictitious restaurant, The Original Beef of Chicagoland, is said to be located in River North.
The first season plays heavily on the sports-centric crowd, the city loyalty, and the diversity present in the city. The show also had local restaurant owners, celebrity chef Matty Matheson, and pastry chef Sarah Mispagel consult, lending it an extra authentic real-to-life feel.
The trailer for the 2nd season hit the internet yesterday, and we’ve spotted 2 iconic Chicago staples in the short clip! Keep reading to see what Chicago locals got a shoutout.
When it comes to the food scene, we caught glimpses of:
- Publican Quality Meats
Address: 825 W Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607
- Dom’s Kitchen and Market
Address: 2730 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60614
There are also plenty of Chicago scenic spots as well, from the recognizable corncob towers to a shot of a CTA train rushing by.
As for the new season, expect to see plenty of upscale menu items and what’s now dubbed a thoughtful ‘chaos menu’. We’re back with the cast as they navigate new adventures in the city, redo the original restaurant and endure the trials and tribulations associated with the restaurant business.
The cast is also rumored to attend the James Beard Awards on Monday, June 5 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. (Maybe they’ll also show up to the pre-award show Wrigley Field dinner as well?) 👀
You can stream season 2 of The Bear starting June 22nd!
