If you’ve been missing Tacombi, the beloved Wicker Park taqueria, you’ll be thrilled to hear that the restaurant is reopening just in time for Cinco de Mayo.
After a temporary closure for structural work, Tacombi will reopen on May 5th, and to celebrate, the company will donate 100% of its proceeds to the Tacombi Foundation, its nonprofit organization, to fund a new educational facility in a rural community in Jalisco, Mexico.

This initiative is part of an annual tradition for the restaurant group, which dedicates all sales from Cinco de Mayo to its foundation. This year’s funds will support the development of a learning center, starting with a preschool. The foundation aims to have programming ready for the 2027–2028 school year.
Amelia Riba, CEO of Tacombi, stated, “Cinco de Mayo is always one of our most important days of the year, not just in our restaurants, but for what it allows us to support beyond them. Reopening Wicker Park on the same day makes it even more meaningful. It’s a chance for our Chicago community to directly contribute to something bigger.”
Originally established in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in 2006, the Tacombi Foundation focuses on improving educational access in Mexican communities.
