The highly anticipated Square Roots Festival is returning to Lincoln Square this weekend, transforming the neighborhood into a hub with live music featuring an array of talented Chicago artists, local cuisine, and a selection of craft beers.
Headlining this year are Grammy-nominated artist Margo Price; Chicago’s Indie Rock superstars Dehd; British singer-songwriter Nick Lowe performing alongside Los Straitjackets; Hurray for the Riff Raff; JD McPherson; Robbie Fulks; and Sons of the Silent Age.
However, major street closures will be in effect throughout the event.
The festival will take over Lincoln Avenue, stretching between Montrose and Wilson avenues. To accommodate the festivities, Lincoln Avenue will be completely fenced off at strategic points: Montrose, Wilson, and Sunnyside. Despite the closures, local businesses will remain operational, and patrons can easily access them by entering through the festival gates at Montrose, Wilson, or Sunnyside from the east and west.
As part of the festival’s street closures, the following areas will be affected:
- Lincoln Avenue, from 4400 to 4600 N, between Wilson Avenue and Montrose Avenue.
- W. Sunnyside Avenue, between Leavitt Street and Oakley Avenue.
- N. Leavitt Street, from Sunnyside Avenue to the cul-de-sac behind the Sulzer Regional Library.
Although the festival is free to attend, the organizers kindly suggest a $10 donation for adults and $5 for seniors and children.
Square Roots Festival kicks off at 5 p.m. July 10 and runs through July 12.
