From hunting down the best waterfalls near Chicago to embarking on stunning hiking adventures, sometimes we must leave the city to find things that simply can’t be obtained in our urban jungle.
As the weather warms and the days get longer, the many magnificent farms around Illinois offer another kind of whimsical weekend escape. This time of the year fruit and flowers begin to flourish in equal measure offering kaleidoscopic floral fields and an abundance of fresh produce.
This coming weekend Windy Acres Farm is hosting its offering Chicagoans one such quaint retreat for its 5th annual Strawberry Festival.
Taking place this coming Saturday and Sunday, the annual festival will have farm market goods, live entertainment, and outdoor activities, not to mention a wonderful array of strawberry-themed snacks.
“Enjoy all things strawberry! Including fresh strawberries, strawberry shortcakes, strawberry slushies, strawberry pie, strawberry jam, strawberry donuts, and much more” writes the farm.
There will be a giant playground, slides, ziplines, mini golf, a sports zone, a train ride, and life-sized hamster wheels, amongst other exhilarating activities for kids.
The festival will open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday with attractions open an hour later at 10 a.m.
There is no entry fee to the farm and its open-air market but tickets to enter the attractions area cost $16.99 online and $17.99 on the door. Kids aged under 2 go free.Windy Acres Farm is located just over an hour from Chicago at 37w446 Fabyan Parkway in Geneva, Illinois.
