Have a Southwest flight from O’Hare scheduled this summer? You’re plans might be getting rerouted.
Southwest Airlines has confirmed it will officially discontinue service from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport beginning in June.
Here’s what it means for your upcoming travel plans.
Southwest to end O’Hare service on June 4

Southwest announced its plans to stop service at O’Hare in a travel advisory shared Friday, stating “Southwest Airlines will no longer operate service to, from, or through Chicago/O’Hare, IL (ORD)…beginning June 4, 2026.”
The advisory notes that the service stop will impact travelers with flights booked on or after June 4. Flyers may choose from one of two alternate flight plan options:
- Rebook or travel standby
- Southwest will permit O’Hare bound travelers with flights on or before June 4 to rebook their trips or travel standby.
- Those who rebook may choose from several alternate Midwest airports including Chicago/Midway, IL (MDW), Milwaukee, WI (MKE), Indianapolis, IN (IND).
- Get a refund
- Travelers with reservations that include a flight to or from Chicago O’Hare are eligible for a refund covering the unused ticket and any added travel accommodations (priority boarding, extra legroom, etc.)

Southwest flights at O’Hare on or before June 3 will not be impacted.
Following the June 4 cutoff date, Southwest flyers in Chicago will travel exclusively through Midway airport.
