Chicago is home to dozens of award-winning restaurants, but according to a new roundup, one acclaimed local eatery is the best dining destination in the U.S.
North America’s 50 Best Restaurants just dropped its 2026 roundup and a West Loop restaurant claimed the number one spot.
Here’s the details.
Smyth is North America’s Best Restaurant

Smyth claimed the titles of both Best Restaurant in North America 2026 and Best Restaurant in Midwest USA 2026.
Founded in 2016 by husband and wife duo Karen and John Shields, Smyth has skyrocketed to culinary stardom over the past decade.
The West Loop fine dining spot is one of just 14 U.S. restaurants to hold the coveted 3-star designation from Michelin.

50 Best notes Smyth’s focus on farm-to-table ingredients, natural wines, and unusual flavor combinations.
Must-try dishes include the trout belly doughnut with kumquat, caviar with green walnut, and chocolate + maitake mushroom tart.
If you’re thinking of snagging a reservation for an upcoming occasion, be sure to schedule ahead—tables tend to fill up quickly!
