The iconic Shops at North Bridge on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile are set to undergo a multi-million dollar renovation, with an estimated cost of $40 million.
According to NBC Chicago, this project is “poised to become one of the greatest comeback stories in Chicago retail history.” The mall, which opened in 2000, spans six blocks along Michigan Avenue and is anchored by Eataly, Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, and a four-story Nordstrom.

The massive multi-phase overhaul kicks off in August 2026
Construction for this multi-phase project is scheduled to begin in August 2026, aiming to significantly enhance the mall’s entrance on Michigan Avenue and create a “reimagined” retail and dining experience.
A key feature of the renovation will be the transformation of the Michigan Avenue entrance, designed by ParkFowler Plus. This will include a new glass façade featuring a large-format, backlit LED archway display with a digital art installation.
Inside, the mall’s central atrium will be converted into a hospitality-driven gathering space, highlighted by a suspended sculptural installation. Additional plans include a bar and lounge, upgraded lighting, new signage, modernized mall directories, and updated flooring, among other improvements.
The exterior is expected to be completed in 2027.
