Say hello to the Shedd Aquarium’s newest addition—an adorable baby beluga calf!
Born in July of 2024, the aquatic critter has reached several important milestones, and now the aquarium is seeking Chicago’s help in naming the adorable baby whale!
A beluga’s journey
Since splashing into the Shedd family sixth months ago, the beluga calf has grown rapidly in size and made remarkable progress under the watchful eye of staff.
According to Shedd, the calf has grown nearly three times his size since birth, and has spent time exploring and bonding with the aquarium’s other young beluga named Atlas.
As the baby whale continues to thrive and grow, he will slowly be introduced the rest of the Shedd’s beluga family, and enjoy more opportunities for social interaction.
Help name the baby beluga
With the beluga making such positive strides, the Shedd has decided its finally time to give the young calf a name—and the aquarium needs your help!
Shedd is offering museum members the opportunity to vote on the calf’s name now through February 27.
The aquarium’s animal care team have selected four names for members to choose from: Campbell, Kincaid, Leucus, and Opus. Current and new members will receive access to a virtual poll where they can cast their vote.
