The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Chicago and surrounding counties effective until 10 p.m. Friday night.
A Hazardous Weather Outlook is also in effect for Cook County and surrounding counties.
Predictions indicate an elevated risk of thunderstorms with primary threats including golf-ball-sized hail and winds up to 60 mph.
The NWS notes some storms could be severe, with a 60% chance of precipitation overall.
Additional scattered storms are possible early Saturday, but conditions are expected to clear by the afternoon.
