Are you visiting downtown Chicago for the day? You can ditch the single-ride CTA pass—there’s a new way to get around town on all transit platforms with no limit on rides.
The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has launched its first-ever Regional Day Pass, an all-inclusive ticket providing unlimited rides across the CTA, Metra, and Pace systems.
RTA tackles cross-transit accessibility with new day pass
The new day pass is a part of the RTA’s efforts to increase connectivity between all three area transit systems while simplifying fare integration, according to a release.
“The new Regional Day Pass is a result of the collective efforts of CTA, Metra, Pace, and RTA to make public transit the most affordable, convenient travel option in the region,” said CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen.
“This fare product will allow riders to seamlessly travel across all three transit systems, as much as they want within 24 hours, just in time for everyone to enjoy all that Chicagoland has to offer during the summer.”
Weekend and daily rates
The Regional Day Pass costs $2.50 more than the standard Metra Day Pass, with added access to CTA buses and trains, as well as Pace service. Weekday pass prices are as follows:
- $10 in Metra’s single-zone travel area ($6 for reduced fare card holders)
- $13.50 in Metra’s two-zone travel area ($8 for reduced fare card holders)
- $16 in Metra’s three-zone travel area ($9 for reduced fare card holders)
All Regional Day Passes will cost $9.50 on weekends.
The day passes are available now in the latest version of the Ventra App. Riders must have a registered Ventra card to buy the pass.
