Some of our most memorable Chicago moments are when we’re perched atop a fabulous rooftop, sipping delicious cocktails and enjoying light bites. Luckily, we have no shortage of spectacular rooftops downtown, each showcasing some of the most stunning views of our city’s iconic skyline. If you’re looking for one of our favorite rooftops, then you must check out the RIU Rooftop, located in the 4-star hotel RIU Plaza Chicago. Get ready to soak in breathtaking panoramic views—but be sure to make your plans to visit soon before summer ends!
What makes Riu Rooftop Chicago Standout
The international RIU hotel chain began in the 1950s in Mallorca, Spain, and now operates 97 RIU hotels and resorts in 21 countries. RIU Plaza Chicago opened in July 2024, making it its fifth hotel across the United States. The hotel’s spectacular rooftop terrace made its grand debut shortly after and has been a local favorite ever since.

Walk on glass and watch Chicago unfold beneath your feet
As you venture to the 27th floor of the hotel, you’ll not only notice the stunning views but also a unique balcony with glass flooring that protrudes out from the building that is the pièce de résistance, reminiscent of Chicago’s Skydeck in Willis Tower. Plan your visit!

This glass deck is the only one at a hotel in the city, suspending you around 290 feet in the sky with nothing but glass between you and the world below. So grab your cocktails, your friends, and get ready to create the most epic photos yet! We’re still dreaming about those incredible views in the clouds!
Indulge in delicious cocktails and international-inspired bites

Now that we’ve captured those epic photos overlooking the city from the iconic glass balcony, you’ll want to find a spot on one of the comfortable couches and chairs—preferably next to the firepits—and get those drink and food orders at The RIU Rooftop bar.
The menu features a variety of delicious lunch and dinner options with a focus on international cuisine. Some standouts are a Lebanese trio Mezze with pita bread (Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Tzatziki), tacos de barbacoa, wings, Mediterranean marinated Kalamata olives, Chicken satay with spicy peanut sauce, and more.

As for cocktails, you’ll find all the classics, from refreshing mojitos in a variety of flavors and piña coladas to Aperol spritzes, martinis, and the hotel’s signature Chicago Cocktail, made of Cognac, Triple Sec, Angostura bitters, and Prosecco.
What else can you expect during your stay at RIU Plaza Chicago?

Whether you’re a local planning a fantastic staycation in the heart of the city with friends and family or visiting for the first time, the 390-room RIU Plaza Chicago is in a prime location, perfect for exploring the city on foot.

Located at 150 E. Ontario Street, you’ll be steps away from the Magnificent Mile and all the fabulous shopping and restaurants, near the Chicago River, Navy Pier, and Willis Tower.
The design and décor was inspired by the Chicago School of Architecture, and as soon as you walk into the lobby, you’ll notice an Art Deco-inspired mural, a mix of light and dark colors, and the use of natural materials of marble and wood. Guest rooms were designed with comfort in mind with plenty of natural light and of course, those great views. So if you’re looking for a hotel with an epic rooftop with close proximity to the best that Chicago has to offer, this is the spot. The only thing that’s an absolute, is planning your trip this summer to soak in all of these incredible views!
