The polar vortex is back with a vengeance in Chicago.
After a brutal cold snap in January, the weather phenomenon has once again brought subzero and single-digit temperatures to the Windy City.
According to the National Weather Service, it’s even colder in Chicago right now than in parts of Alaska!
The high in Chicago will only reach 12 degrees on Tuesday, while Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, will see highs of 24 and 35 degrees, respectively. Wind chills as low as -11 degrees will make it feel even colder.
Unfortunately, the polar vortex in Chicago isn’t going anywhere soon. Wednesday’s high will reach only 15 degrees, followed by 22 degrees on Thursday.
Temperatures will hover near the freezing mark through the weekend. By next week, though, a slight warm-up is on the way, with highs climbing into the low 40s by Monday.
For now, it’s best to hunker down and limit exposure to the elements as much as possible. If you must venture outdoors be sure to bundle up with multiple layers of loose fitting, warm clothing.
