🦋🤯You won’t believe your eyes with shape-shifting art!
The artist encourages viewers to question their perception, continually conveying powerful statements through his artwork. Among the notable pieces on display in Chicago are the modern-day Mona Lisa, ‘Diamonds,’ the widely recognized ‘Woman Power,’ the Michael Jordan-inspired ‘AIR,’ and a brand new creation dedicated to the city featuring 80 icons that spell out the word ‘CHICAGO.’ His mesmerizing piece, ‘Wow’ is made up of over 1,000 mini disco balls, making it a must-see in person!
Another standout is ‘AIR,’ which ingeniously resembles an Air Jordan 1 sneaker from one angle and seamlessly transitions into the iconic Jumpman silhouette from another.
Murphy’s inspiration for this piece arises from his deep connection with the Jordan brand — he was a childhood fan and later was commissioned to fashion the Air Jordan sculpture for Niketown in Chicago back in 2014.
Enjoy these mind-altering, multi-dimensional pieces at the exhibition now open in Chicago! In a conversation with Danny Agnew of Inside Hoook, Murphy said of his work: “I arrived at ‘perceptual art’ because the emphasis of my work is largely on the viewer’s perception. After many years of creating, I started to realize that what I was trying to make wasn’t just an object or an image, but I was trying to create experiences that viewers would have. The experience that the viewer has is essentially the finished product.”
Perceptual Experience is now open for a limited time on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile (540 N. Michigan Ave. at the corner of Michigan and Ohio), and tickets are still available! Get yours to catch Murphy’s mind-bending work while it’s in Chicago.
