On the tail of National Dog Day this Friday, the Anti-Cruelty Shelter, is celebrating with a ‘Clear the Shelters’ day with adoption events! The city has been seeing an overwhelming overpopulation of animal shelters in the area, so the organization is waving fees to encourage adoption. The event is a nationally recognized day and is meant to help shelters find permanent homes for animals in need. Other shelters, like PAWS Chicago, are also celebrating the day with adoption possibilities in the area.
The Clear the Shelters Day event allows people to adopt a pet with all fees waived this Saturday. The events around the city go from noon to 5 PM at The Anti-Cruelty Society, (Located at510 N. La Salle St.) or any of other its adoption locations. The PAWS Chicago event, held at their Lincoln Park Center (1997 N Clybourn Ave, Chicago, IL 60614) will include vendors and exciting giveaway opportunities, along with a photo area where visitors can dress up with their pets for a photoshoot!
If you’re looking to adopt a pet, you must be 18 years and have a government-issued ID at the ready. If you’re interested in adopting a pet, the Anti-Cruelty Society recommends filling out an online application prior to the event to help with the process. For adoptees, everything needed for their new pet will be available on-site, and adoption team members will also be around to answer any questions and provide training. Hills Pet Nutrition is also giving away pet food to anyone adopting on Saturday. Check out a list of available pets here and here through PAWS.
For anyone who is not ready to adopt just yet, there’s also the option to foster a pet for up to one week. All animals will be adoptable on a first-come, first-served basis. While the adoption fees will be waived on Saturday, the $100 training deposit fee will still apply to animals.
