Finding homes for large dogs who are more than 40 pounds is tricky and PAWS hopes a virtual adoption will help.
There may be more than one set of puppy dog eyes you’re staring into on the most romantic weekend of the year. PAWS Chicago is currently hosting its Big Love Adoption Event which will run through Sunday, February 14.
According to Mark Lukas, a volunteer from PAWS, “one of the challenges we face is finding homes for our larger dogs because a lot of people live in apartments and condominiums so space comes at a premium and big dogs get overlooked.”
Animal shelters often have a hard time finding homes for their larger breed dogs who weigh more than 40 pounds but even more so in big cities like Chicago. Mark Lukas hopes that some social media attention will help find these gentle giants a home.
You can browse PAWS Chicago’s list of available pets, looking out for the pink “Big Love” banner under their profile shot which identifies the larger dogs that have the least chance of finding a home.
The virtual adoption process starts with a quick 60-second comPETibility test to make sure animals fit the right household and lifestyle.
