Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood is getting its own children’s museum!
First reported by Block Club Chicago, the One Lawndale Children’s Discovery Center (1LCDC) will open at 3140 W. Ogden Ave., covering 25,000 square feet of space designed for children 5 and under.
The museum will feature indoor and outdoor exhibits focused on STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), environmental conservation, health education, and more.
Planned exhibits include an interactive grocery store, art studio, reading area, health education play zone, and infant play space.
Outside, kids can explore a sprawling playground featuring a hexagonal jungle gym, or “hive climber,” according to Block Club.
Beyond play areas, 1LCDC will include a flex space for parent education classes, community meetings, birthday parties, yoga sessions, and after-school programming.
The project is part of the Lawndale Gateway Project and a collaborative effort between the North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council and other community partners.
1LCDC aims to begin construction later this year, and open by 2027.
