July 2025 was the busiest month at O’Hare International Airport in its 70-year history, according to recently released data from the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA).
Records show that the travel hub welcomed a whopping 8.26 million passengers over the course of the month—more than 266,000 flyers per day on average.
The July ’25 stats surpassed O’Hare’s previous busiest month record set back in July of 2019.
Chicago’s 2025 travel surge

O’Hare’s recent record-breaking month coincides with a trend of increased traffic at Chicago’s airports so far this year.
According to the CDA, O’Hare welcomed 4.83 million passengers during the first 7 months of 2025, representing a 6.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Additionally, the ten busiest days in history for O’Hare TSA all occurred this summer, peaking in the wake of Lollapalooza in early August.
“More travelers than ever are choosing Chicago—whether they’re visiting our city or connecting to destinations across the globe,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson.
“The greatest city in the world deserves the world’s greatest airport. I am grateful to the more than 46,000 O’Hare employees whose dedication and professionalism made this milestone possible.”
