The weather in Chicago once again disappointed both locals and visitors during last night’s Fourth of July fireworks show. Heavy fog rolled in from Lake Michigan in the late afternoon and persisted into the evening, severely reducing visibility. Navy Pier officials described this year’s display as their “largest and longest” ever produced.
In a Facebook post overnight, Navy Pier officials expressed their disappointment that the fog affected the show and offered a token of appreciation to visitors.

To make up for it, Navy Pier announced on social media that it will offer free rides on its iconic Centennial Wheel every Wednesday at 6 p.m. through Labor Day—allowing everyone to enjoy the attraction before the Pier’s biweekly fireworks display on Wednesday nights.
“We are disappointed with the effect fog had on tonight’s Independence Day fireworks’ visibility, and understand it impacted our guests’ experience,” the post said.
