NASCAR fans were optimistic last year when organizers announced a potential 2027 comeback for the Chicago Street Race.
Unfortunately, it appears those aspirations have been dashed—in an email obtained by CBS Chicago on Tuesday, NASCAR officials announced the Chicago Street Race will not return to Grant Park in 2027.
Officials stated that despite joint efforts between NASCAR and the city, the timeline for a 2027 return was not viable.
NASCAR did clarify, however, that it remains invested in the Chicago region and is open to the possibility of relaunching the event at some point in the future.
The news comes just over a year after the final iteration of the street race series. NASCAR’s Chicago Street Race event ran for three editions from 2023 through 2025.
In the meantime, racing fans in Chicago can gear up for the return of NASCAR at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet in June of 2027.
