Typically, Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love. At times, it’s okay to look back on those ex-relationships through a funny lens. While there are so many fun ways to celebrate your partner this year, Brookfield Zoo is all about reminiscing on those spurned lovers.
With a simple donation, you can once again name a cockroach after your ex! The beloved and petty tradition is back this year at Brookfield Zoo. To name a Madagascar hissing cockroach after your ex (or maybe just a foe) all it takes is a $15 donation to support the zoo.

With the donation, you’ll get a personalized certificate– which, feel free to send it to your ex! The chosen name will also be displayed on the Cockroach Naming Board which will hang right outside of the Hamill Family Play Zoo on February 14th. If you’re looking to name a cockroach, fill out the form on Brookfield Zoo’s website and make sure to select if the chosen cockroach is for an ex, friend, or lover, then type the chosen name into the notes section.
Donations and name submissions are due Monday, February 6th at 5 p.m. Fill out the form here.
