Metra is expanding its service on the Rock Island Line for both weekdays and weekends starting next month.
According to NBC Chicago, additional trains will be added during the week, and weekend service will increase to 40 trains on both Saturday and Sunday, ensuring equal service on both days.

Metra is drastically changing schedules on the 40-mile Rock Island Line
Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinsk said:
Rock Island riders have made it clear that they want additional evening and weekend service to allow more flexibility, whether they’re traveling to the city or the South Side and suburbs.
We’re also taking this opportunity to expand weekend service so that the schedules on both Saturdays and Sundays are the same, making the schedules more convenient and easier to understand for both regular and occasional riders.
The Rock Island Line spans over 40 miles, running from Chicago’s LaSalle Street Station to Joliet.
Several other changes will take effect on June 1, including the addition of stops at Gresham, 95th Street/Longwood, and 103rd Street/Washington Heights on multiple weekday and weekend trains. These stops will also be included in weekend service.
Additionally, Beverly Branch trains will no longer stop at 123rd Street and Prairie Street during off-peak hours on weekdays, and these stops will be eliminated on weekend trains as well.
