Chicago’s most infamous alcoholic drink is walking into a pie courtesy of a local bakery!
Introducing Malort pie
Hoosier Mama Pie Company in West Town (1618 W Chicago Ave) is serving up a one-of-a-kind Malort pie this holiday season.
The filling features sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, salt, grapefruit juice, and Malort, according to the bakery’s site. The pie comes with a sweetened whipped cream rim and should be served cold.

The bakery unveiled the treat, dubbed the “Chicago Sunrise,” in a Facebook post shared earlier this week.
“Here’s to you Chicago! We don’t have a liquor license so we can’t raise a glass, but we can raise our forks,” read the post. “Bring your big shoulders in for a slice of Chicago Sunrise (aka Malort and grapefruit) pie!”
So if you’re looking for something to bring to thanksgiving dinner that’s sure to make an impression, Hoosier Mama’s has you covered!
